Resize Image to 20KB

Passport photos and signature scans often have to be 20 KB or less. Add your picture and the tool searches for the best JPG quality, then shrinks the dimensions only as much as it must.

Easy Instructions

How to Use Resize Image to 20KB in 3 Simple Steps

  1. 01 —

    Add your pictures

Drop in one or more JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF images. Nothing is uploaded: everything runs in your browser.

  2. 02 —

    Press the button

The tool tries a range of JPG qualities. If even the lowest acceptable quality is too big, it makes the picture a little smaller and tries again until it fits.

  3. 03 —

    Check the size and save

Each result shows its new file size and pixel dimensions, so you can confirm it before you upload it to the form.

Core Advantages

Why Use QuickFileTools for Resize Image to 20KB?

Quality first, size second

The tool uses the highest JPG quality that still fits in 20 KB, and only reduces the pixel dimensions when quality alone cannot get there.

Private by design

Your photos never leave your device. The picture is re-encoded by your own browser, so a passport photo or signature stays with you.

Batch friendly

Add several images and download them one by one or together in a single ZIP, which helps when a form needs a photo and a signature.

Already small? Left alone

If a picture is already 20 KB or less, it is returned exactly as it was instead of being recompressed and made worse.

Why people need a 20 KB image

A limit this small is common on older application forms.

Signature uploads

A scanned signature on white paper compresses very well. At 20 KB it is usually still clearly legible, and the tool can trim its dimensions if needed.

Passport-style photos

Some application portals accept a small portrait of about 20 KB. Keep the face well lit and the background plain for the cleanest result.

Online exam and job forms

Registration pages often have separate, strict size limits for the photo and the signature, and reject a file even a little over.

Tiny thumbnails and avatars

Forums, internal tools and email signatures sometimes need a very small picture that loads instantly on any connection.

If the image does not come out right

The form needs exact dimensions as well, like 200 by 230 pixels
This tool only guarantees file size. If your form needs exact dimensions, resize the picture to those dimensions first with the Resize Image tool, then run it through here. Since this tool only ever makes pictures smaller, an image already at the right size is usually kept at that size when it fits.
The picture looks grainy or blocky
A 20 KB file leaves very little data for detail, so busy photographs show compression. Start from a cleaner, simpler picture: a plain background and good lighting compress far better than a cluttered scene.
It says the target could not be reached
The tool stops making a picture smaller once it would be too tiny to be useful. Crop away unneeded background before trying again, which lowers the amount of detail the file has to store.
My PNG with a transparent background has a white one now
The output is a JPG, which cannot hold transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. That is normal for photo and signature forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large can a 20 KB image be in pixels?
It depends on the picture. A plain scanned signature can stay fairly large, while a detailed photograph may need to be a few hundred pixels wide to fit. The tool shows the final dimensions so you can check.
Why is the output always a JPG?
JPG gives the smallest files for photographs and scans, which is what these limits are for. Output is a .jpg file regardless of what you uploaded.
Does the tool reduce quality or dimensions first?
Quality first. It looks for the highest JPG quality that fits in 20 KB at the current size, and only shrinks the dimensions when even the lowest acceptable quality is still too large.
Can I get exactly 20 KB?
The aim is the largest file that stays at or under 20 KB, so results usually land a little below it, not on it. A few kilobytes of difference is normal.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The picture is processed by your own browser and stays on your device. There is no fixed size limit, though very large photographs take longer on a phone.
