Why Use QuickFileTools for Add Page Numbers to Word Documents Online?
Real Word page-number fields
The numbers are genuine PAGE and NUMPAGES fields, so they keep updating when you add or remove pages in Word.
Header or footer, any alignment
Place the number at the top or bottom, left, center or right, or mirror it on even pages for printed, double-sided documents.
Formats, Roman numerals and letters
Use 1, 2, 3, Page 1 of 10, - 1 -, or your own template, in decimal, Roman (i, I) or letter (a, A) numbering.
Cover page, start number and sections
Leave the cover unnumbered, start at any number, begin numbering at a later section, or restart numbering in every section.
Keeps your document intact
Text, images, tables and styles are not touched. Existing headers and footers can be kept or replaced.
When people use this tool
Page numbers are one of those small things that make a document look finished.
Reports and proposals
Add "Page 3 of 12" so readers and printers can tell if a page is missing.
Theses and dissertations
Leave the title page blank, use Roman numerals for the front matter and start the main text at 1.
Contracts and legal documents
Number every page in the footer, with the total, so each page can be referenced precisely.
Printed and bound documents
Mirror the numbers on facing pages so they always sit on the outer edge.
Common problems
If the result is not what you expected, one of these usually explains it.
- The number shows 1 on every page
- Some viewers show the field's stored value until they refresh it. Open the file in Word, or press Ctrl+A then F9, and the numbers update.
- The total includes the cover page
- The page count field always counts every page. If the cover is not numbered, "Page 1 of 10" appears on the second page of a 10-page file.
- I see two numbers on a page
- The document already had page numbers. Run the tool again on the original file with "Replace existing header or footer" selected.
